UVA Educational Research Buildings

These new buildings enhance the University’s ability to continue to attract and retain top students and faculty and perform cutting-edge research. The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Research Building provides modern research space for up to 28 faculty-led research teams in a mix of physical and life science applications, with an emphasis on biology and chemistry. Each of the five floors includes science wet labs for research and development.

The School of Engineering and Applied Science Information Technology and Engineering (SEAS ITE) Building provides research and instructional program space related to the development, modeling, and evaluation of information based systems by establishing a common home for the University’s departments of Computer Science, Systems and Information Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Each of these 100,000 square foot buildings achieved USGBC LEED® Silver certification. Sustainable design features include daylight harvesting system, green screens, use of natural light with emphasis on energy efficiency, and a white roof.
