NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – (August 2017) – W. M. Jordan Development Company officially broke ground today on construction for Building One @ Tech Center, an 80,000-square-foot building, the first of many in the 50-acre research park located at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Oyster Point Road in Newport News.
Developers and dignitaries were on hand to make several tenant announcements as part of the ceremony.
“There is tremendous interest in Building One @ Tech Center, and we have already secured multiple leases for tenants and have several more letters of intent pending,” said John Lawson, President and CEO of W. M. Jordan Company. “We anticipate delivery of this $18 million building in August 2018.”
“The entrepreneurial ecosystem we are creating here in Hampton Roads will accelerate entrepreneurship and business growth throughout the region, the Commonwealth, and beyond,” said Secretary of Technology Karen Jackson. “This amazing park is directly aligned with ongoing efforts, including the Entrepreneur in Residence program at NASA-Langley, to commercialize cutting-edge technologies and drive translational research by providing a world-class location for discoveries to land and grow.”
“Tech Center will create a collaborative environment and networking opportunities, ideal for entrepreneurs and others who wish to start or grow a business,” said Newport News Mayor McKinley Price. “This development will also advance the goal of strengthening the connection between the academic community and private industry, and will promote the commercialization of Jefferson Lab and university research.”

Opready, Inc. utilizes modern technology and sophisticated design to provide intuitive products and solutions for both common and complex business environments. Opready, Inc. provides services to small and large business manufacturers, vendors, service providers and operators.
“Joining the Tech Center Research Park community will give us the ability to collaborate with other technology-based companies,” said President /CEO Sean Worden. “This will help us research, develop and implement bold and innovative products that utilize the latest and most advanced technological solutions including augmented reality, virtual reality and other web-based technologies for our clients.”
J&F Alliance Group provides services that support local, state, government and military infrastructures through responsive logistical support, information technology, administrative support and augmented, virtual and mixed-reality solutions. The company expanded its capabilities to include the development of augmented and virtual reality applications for military services and the Department of Defense following a partnership in 2016 with Ario, a small tech company based in Newport News.
Tech Center Research Park will provide the platform and synergy to attract tenants that desire a connected, collaborative and smart community that is focused on growing businesses that matter. The infrastructure has been designed to provide supportive services to help businesses succeed. Tenants in Building One @ Tech Center will have access to VT Knowledge Works, a business acceleration program, videoconferencing, conference rooms, research-grade internet speeds, networking events and co-working space. The location of Tech Center Research Park in Newport News’ Enterprise Zone includes economic and business incentives. The research park master plan includes walking and bike trails and access to all of the amenities at Tech Center.

Tech Center Research Park is located in Newport News’ only area zoned for research and adjacent to Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab), one of 17 national laboratories funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. This proximity will allow Tech Center Research Park tenants to leverage the presence of the Jefferson Lab’s high-tech scientific and technical workforce and the international user community it serves. Additional benefits are the proximity to other national corporate, research and defense entities including NASA Langley Research Center, Langley Air Force Base, Canon, Alion Science and Technology, C² Technologies and Triumph Aerospace Systems, in addition to numerous colleges and universities.
