As a new employee, learning every aspect of a company can be a challenge. At W. M. Jordan it is our goal to equip each new employee with the tools needed to start off on their best foot.
Last week, W. M. Jordan hosted 18 of our newest employees at our Newport News Headquarters for a day-long orientation event.
Orientation kicked off with introductions and an ice breaker that allowed the group to learn more about each other.
“Getting to meet everyone was great,” said Assistant Superintendent Zachary Sprinkle, “This was definitely a bonding experience for all of the new folks, and it was nice to have people from all of our offices come together.”
Next, the group heard from Executive Chairman, John R. Lawson II, who spoke of about the rich history of the organization and the values that his Father and co-founder Bob Lawson instilled in the company from the start. He also spoke about the importance of the company’s special culture.
“Hearing from, and getting to meet, Johnny was great,” said Digital Marketing Specialist Tucker Bloom. “He and his family have put so much time and effort into growing this company. I’m lucky to be joining such a great organization that really takes care of its people.”
The new-hire group was then given a fun ‘quiz’, testing their knowledge of W. M. Jordan’s history and its employees; each person got some WMJ swag to take home with them.
After a networking lunch with the leadership team, the group heard from department heads. Everything from Accounting to Pre-Construction to Technology and Marketing was covered. Each department went into more detail about what they do at W. M. Jordan and how they interact and are involved with different aspects of the company.
Finally, W. M. Jordan President Ron Lauster met with the group and spoke of the importance of integrity and always representing W. M. Jordan with class and respect.
W.M. Jordan’s new-hire orientation will take place each quarter and is designed to welcome new employees into the W. M. Jordan family, while also educating them about the history of the firm and how they fit into the WMJ Team.
