Hampton Roads Transit
W. M. Jordan Company provided Construction Management services for a new 9.5-acre replacement complex for Hampton Roads Transit’s Southside bus operations. New buildings included an administration building, a bus maintenance facility, a fuel island, and 546-space parking garage.
The administration building provides office space for Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) operations staff including those responsible for all bus services, ferry boats and light rail management. This building is attached to a new concrete parking garage, which connects to the Maintenance Facility by way of a pedestrian bridge. The parking garage includes spaces for 185 buses at the ground level and 361 automobile spaces on the second level. The Bus Maintenance Facility is a high bay facility with over 60-foot clear span. It supports the bus fleet operations and maintenance and is where all buses depart for each shift and where the buses return to be fueled, washed, stored, and repaired.
The 196,220 square foot complex is registered with the USGBC and achieved LEED Gold Certification. As part of the sustainable upgrades, buses that were beyond the FTA useful life criteria guidelines were replaced with ten hybrid buses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, a 10,000 SF green roof system with rain collection for irrigation was included in the scope of the project.
With our clients, partners, and community, W. M. Jordan strives for the relentless pursuit of excellence.
