OVERVIEW

The Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center, known by its initials VASCIC, is a joint effort of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the City of Newport News, the Industrial Development Authority of Newport News, and Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. The center is a state-of-the-art facility where teams of experts, including Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, electronic system suppliers, software suppliers, U.S. Navy laboratories and program representatives, and Virginia institutions of higher learning develop new technologies for aircraft carriers, submarines, and other advanced shipbuilding programs.

The VASCIC complex is composed of three distinct structures. Center stage is the Technology Center, a 120,000 square foot, seven-story office tower designed to house 400 personnel and support activities in the laboratory wing. The Technology Center includes five electronic classrooms, a modeling and simulation room, and secure conference rooms with video teleconferencing on each floor. A 120,000 square foot laboratory wing is a separate structure from the office tower and includes a 180-seat auditorium, cafeteria, 85,000 square feet of high-bay laboratory, and a communications tower. The third structure is a four-story parking garage designed to hold over 600 cars.
