William A. Hunton YMCA

W. M. Jordan Company is proud to partner with the historic William A. Hunton YMCA to deliver a new community‑focused facility that honors its 150‑year legacy while expanding its mission of service, education, and wellness. Founded in 1875, the Hunton YMCA is one of only four Heritage YMCAs in the United States, and its new home will strengthen its role as a vital resource for families, seniors, and civic organizations across Norfolk.

The planned 47,455‑square‑foot facility is designed to support a wide range of programs and community needs. Key features include dedicated areas for upper and lower school education, a full‑size gymnasium, library, kitchen and cafetorium, reception and administrative offices, and specialized spaces for health services, senior programming, and civic and community gatherings. Two‑story porches and an outdoor swimming pool further enhance the campus, creating welcoming indoor and outdoor environments for year‑round engagement.

A private courtyard will preserve and embrace an existing arbor of mature trees, offering a natural retreat within the site. The entire development is immersed within the 26‑acre Blue Greenway resilience park, a major flood‑protection initiative designed to safeguard the surrounding neighborhood and support long‑term environmental resilience.

Construction may be completed in three phases, depending on fundraising progress:

• Phase 1: The School (~34,000 SF)
• Phase 2: The Gymnasium (pre‑engineered metal building, ~12,555 SF) with supporting restrooms and locker rooms
• Phase 3: The swimming pool, deck, and a 900‑square‑foot support structure
