Haven at Galleria: Setting a Higher Standard for Jobsite Safety

Share

At W. M. Jordan Company, safety is more than a requirement—it’s a core value. Our Haven at Galleria project in Wilmington, North Carolina reflects that commitment through participation in the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) SHARP Program, one of the state’s most respected safety recognition programs.

Comparable to Virginia’s BEST Level 3 program, SHARP evaluates an entire company’s safety culture—not just a single jobsite. Once approved, projects earn SHARP certification and undergo monthly evaluations to ensure standards are consistently met and continuously improved.

“SHARP isn’t just about checking a box,” said Junior Price, Safety Manager at W. M. Jordan Company. “It evaluates who we are as a company and how committed we are to safety from preconstruction all the way through completion.”

A Collaborative Approach That Benefits Everyone

At Haven at Galleria, Junior works closely with NCDOL to coordinate monthly site visits. Each month, a different trade partner is interviewed and observed, allowing NCDOL to review safety programs, training systems, and on-site practices. If improvements are identified, trade partners have 30 days to address them—keeping the focus on partnership and progress, not penalties.

“A lot of trade partners tell us they’re actually glad when OSHA or NCDOL visits,” Junior shared. “They understand those visits are meant to help, and that mindset makes a huge difference.”

Strengthening Trade Partner Safety Programs

Throughout the project, NCDOL will meet with most trade partners on site, reinforcing W. M. Jordan’s belief that safety is a shared responsibility. Not every partner has dedicated safety resources, and W. M. Jordan is proud to step in with training and guidance to help elevate safety programs across the board.

SHARP certification begins during preconstruction, setting expectations early and building long-term relationships with trade partners who share W. M. Jordan’s commitment to safety.

“Our goal is to help our trade partners reach the same safety level we hold ourselves to,” Junior said. “That’s how we make sure everyone goes home safe.”

A Reputation for Going Above and Beyond

Haven at Galleria joins other W. M. Jordan SHARP-certified projects, including Piney Plains and The Pagemore Hotel in Raleigh. The NCDOL Commissioner is actively engaged on W. M. Jordan jobsites and recognizes the company’s dedication to exceeding basic safety requirements—an effort owners consistently value and appreciate.

“This works because safety is embraced from the top down at W. M. Jordan,” Junior added. “Our superintendents, in particular, play a huge role in building trust with our trade partners and making SHARP standards part of everyday operations.”

At Haven at Galleria and across all our projects, W. M. Jordan continues to prove that going above and beyond for safety isn’t just possible—it’s the standard.
