For Abbey Miles, construction wasn’t the path she expected—but it became the place where she’s grown, stretched, and found a team that believes in her. Abbey joined W. M. Jordan Company a little over two years ago and now serves as a Project Administrator in our Raleigh, NC office, supporting multiple projects and helping strengthen our growing regional presence.

Originally from a small town outside Roanoke, Virginia, Abbey graduated from Virginia Tech with a business degree. During her senior year, she felt drawn to Raleigh and made the leap—accepting a job with WMJ, moving shortly after graduation, and diving into a new industry.
Her role has expanded significantly since then. What began as supporting a single project has evolved into coordinating across many jobs, working closely with trade partners, and becoming a key point of contact to help keep work moving smoothly. She’s gained hands‑on exposure to everything from concrete pours to pressure testing and has learned how different project types—residential, nonprofit, and beyond—require unique approaches.
Abbey credits the supportive Raleigh team for helping her understand the “why” behind the work. Project Managers and Superintendents take time to explain construction processes and how her responsibilities fit into the bigger picture. Sitting in on project meetings has deepened her understanding and boosted her confidence.
Now, she enjoys paying that support forward. Abbey loves helping newer team members who may share her background or early‑career questions, and she values being someone who helps others feel connected and capable.
Her favorite part of construction is tangible impact. She loves seeing the results of her team’s work and pointing out completed spaces to friends—knowing she played a part in bringing them to life.
For young people unsure of their path, Abbey encourages trusting your skillset and finding a company that invests in your growth.
“You’re capable of more than you think,” she says. “Being in a place that supports and trains you makes all the difference. The best advice I can give someone who is looking for a new job or is leaving school and not sure what they want to do – find a company that will help you grow and become a better professional.”

We’re proud to celebrate Abbey during Women in Construction Week and grateful for the energy and dedication she brings to WMJ.
With our clients, partners, and community, W. M. Jordan strives for the relentless pursuit of excellence.
