Virtual Design & Construction
In our continual quest to improve, we champion Virtual Design & Construction technologies and work to influence and educate design and trade partners about best practices for their use. We’ve embraced Building Information Modeling, Reality Capture Technology, and model-based Quantity Takeoff for cost estimating, infusing these tools throughout our business. As technology improves, we continue to find innovative ways to add value by expanding our suite of VDC services.
W. M. Jordan Company began integrating Virtual Design and Construction tools in the early 2000’s. Our in-house team of VDC Engineers and Coordinators work with individual project teams to identify and resolve design conflicts in the BIM. VDC Field Engineers focus on site layout and quality control, working closely with field staff while our team of Visualization Specialists produce in-house virtual mockups, logistics plans, and project renderings.
In Preconstruction
Building Information Models (BIM) help project teams resolve conflicts between building components before they become a problem in the field, preventing expensive rework. BIM helps the project team visualize designs, evaluate cost, constructability, and alternative materials, and determine means and methods for construction with input from our project management teams.
Our estimating team uses BIM to provide baseline quantity take-offs for building components, augmenting estimating with evolving design data. BIM is also utilized during design and constructability reviews, helping our clients find cost-effective options without sacrificing on quality.
Logistics studies help us minimize the impact of construction to surrounding properties, develop project phasing plans, plan for just-in-time deliveries, and ensure safe traffic routes for vehicles, pedestrians, and public safety professionals.
In Construction
During construction, we use Virtual Construction tools to improve quality, safety, and accuracy on our projects. 3D coordination of building systems helps our project teams identify and resolve potential conflicts in a digital environment. Gap modeling helps the team visualize items not clearly defined in the design documents, minimizing scope gaps and improving the accuracy of cost estimates. Using the Building Information Model, our team can create virtual mock-ups of specific spaces for discussion, allowing for less re-work and more time saved.
Using a coordinated Building Information Model, we work with trade partners to promote off-site prefabrication of as many building components as possible, minimizing overhead work and improving safety for installers.
Reality Capture Technology including laser scanning, total robotic layouts, and drone photography and video allow us to document built spaces and provide accurate as-builts. We use drones for accurate visual inspections, thermal imaging of existing structures to find roof leaks, and to gain visual documentation of construction progress.
Stand-Alone Services
W. M. Jordan offers a full array of services that improve communication, coordination, and efficiency on a project. We offer these tools outside of our building projects to suit the needs of our customers and the type of project they with to build.
We are proud to work with clients across the country to help them solve their Virtual Design and Construction Needs. Contact us to learn more.
